| I suppose it is day three. For those of you who don't
know the shower in the middle of the bathroom is a rather
strange thing. There is no tub, or indentation where the
shower proper would be. Instead imagine that the toilet
was in the middle of the tub, and the sink was off to the
side. There is no curtain or separation. It's a moveable
shower head, and surprisingly enough, even though I
worried about this the first time, it is so excellently
well designed that even though the toilet seat gets wet
the toilet paper is set perfectly aside so as not to get
wet. It's very odd, very unusual and it makes cleaning
the bathroom very easy, as Sarah Kimmel pointed out to
me. The entire thing is paneled and you step down into
the bathroom. The drainage grate is in the middle of the
floor. It's all very odd. As
for other things, I've found the grocery store it is in
the bottom of a mall. I'm being constantly surprised by
the size of things. Yesterday the Director took me to
lunch/dinner at a very nice place, and had his car
parked. I thought we were eating lunch inside the mall,
next to the very large, maybe 20 story building that the
car went into. Actually, that was the garage, all 20
stories. That surprised me. Every single space is used.
Even the small under the stair well space near the
entrance to our building. The space, for those of you who
have been to the apartment that Sam and I had, is not as
big as the T.V. closet. It is however a clothing store
here. (This actually makes me feel less smart about the
T.V. closet, not realizing that it had been done before).
So,
I think everyone has the proper number and address.
Deodorant would be very nice as I can't get it here,
don't ask me why, other than that things are surprisingly
easy to find and not to expensive. There is a McDonald's
down the street, and a Dunkin Doughnuts about a block
from my apartment. Aside from all the signs being in
Korean it's surprisingly like Chicago. The
other neat thing, which I will explore more toughly this
weekend, as I'm still preparing for classes and what not,
is the mountains. We are sort of in a valley, and we are
surrounded by these little Appalachia size mountains.
There is one a three minute walk from my apartment and I
will let you know if I find or see anything interesting. Classes
start for me next week, and I will be observing today. I
gave some of the students a oral test yesterday to see
where they were at in there studies at the request of the
Director. He was worried I wouldn't be ready to start on
Monday, but I've tried my best to assure him this is not
a problem. I'll have plenty of time to prep this weekend.
Oh,
Daegu is also the biggest textile manufacturer around,
however it is yet to be seen if I will be able to find a
fabric store. |
