| I had another fine, successful, I'd say, weekend in
Korea. The Friday night party turned out very well. We
found the bar which promised Live Beer, which
(unfortunately) turned out to be broadcasts of
"Live" concerts of the likes of Brittany
Spears, and Ricky Martian (eek) at least there was beer. There was also, or so the birthday person thought,
mexican food, which was actually some sort of velveta
sauce some tomato lettuce and onion and grilled chicken.
It made me miss the Settlement and serious Mexican food. After that Jason and I headed downtown for music at
Gypsy Rock, which is a nice place to go, if only because
many of the Koreans who frequent it speak English. We
danced ourselves silly and bumped into a very nice Korean
couple and another teacher and went from there to a
Sojubang, where we stayed until the wee hours of 7:00
a.m. before traveling home. It was a nice time. Aside from all that Saturday night I managed to go out
to a DVD-bong and I watched a very interesting Korean
movie called Joint Security Line, recommended by one of
the Korean's at the door. It was a very interesting drama
set at the DMZ and was really quite fascinating. It put
an entirely different spin on the way I had been thinking
about the relationship between North and South Korea.
DVD-bongs are a nice thing because you can actually watch
foreign movies subtitled in English, so I will probably
venture back again to catch a few more Korean movies and
possibly some French ones since the selection of foreign
movies in Korea is quite good. After that on Sunday I journeyed out to an
Indian-Pakistani restaurant which was quite interesting,
and met a great deal of Pakistani's who seem to be living
in Daegu. A surprisingly large number, actually. There do
seem to be quite a few ex-pat's here, so it seems
surprising that Koreans still act like every foreigner
they see is the latest sensation. Who knows. In the meantime I demand everyone write me. I haven't
had any email for three days and I know I've sent at
least 2 letters. Okay, enough, I'll talk to you all soon. |
