| The time at the sound of the dial is 1:15 am. I'm at
work. I am still at work. I'm not quite sure why I'm at work. The main reason, of course, is that I'm working on finishing the second book for new school that will open that needs to be finished by the end of this week. I need to finish 4 more books after this one, and I need to get them all finished by the end of Februaruy. It's 1:16 am. I have not managed to accomplish more than a few pages on the workbook. I'm trying to concentrate on the workbook I really am. I'm feeling a little overly stressed right this moment about my work situation. I want to make the books. I want to get everything done. But it seems like for each new thing I finish fifteen more pop up, and for some reason I end up handling the bulk of them. I stopped volunteering for extra work about two months ago, but it keeps coming, even when I mention that I don't have time. It's 1:18 am. I've been sick for a few days. Mr. Kim's daughter Min-Soo had her birthday on Saturday. The party was interesting enough. We met the family at the Inter-Bugol Hotel, which had the strangest damn name, really. Their was a buffet style spread for us to brunch on. The gathering was in and of itself rather small, in all about 20 people. Mostly teachers, a few parents, the family, and the photocrew which was rather large. It was explained to me that the photo crew is a standard part of the baby's first birthday. Commemerating it for posterity. ON a table in the middle of the room there were a number of large colorful plastic rice cake decorations. Apples were stacked in a pile, and there was the assortment of things that baby Min-Soo would get to choose from. At the 1st year birthday party the child has to choose an object. On the table were placed a 10,000 won note, a long rope of string, a notebook, and a pencil. Each object represents a differet thing for the child as she gets older. The money is riches, the string long life, and I never managed to find out what the notebook and pencil meant and have forgotten to inquire. It took awhile but Min-Soo finally chose the money, much to Mr. Kim's dismay but his wife's delight. Seems she thought it was very important for Min-Soo to have money. Oddly it was competition of sorts. Mr. Kim put the string on top of the money, but Mrs. Kim moved it off the money so Min-Soo could pick that. Oddly, almost immediatly after picking up the money Min-Soo tossed it down and grabbed the pencil which she perceded to munch on for the rest of the dinner. In all it was very amusing. It's 1:23 am and I'm still recovering from the horrendous sickness I contracted from the after birthday after. Min-Soo may not be aware of it, but her birthday was celebrated rather thoroughly by myself and my fellow teachers, to the point where I am quite sure that I might have caused myself some physical harm from drinking. This will not be repeated as I just can't afford to spend another day teaching with a pit in my stomach having to leave my class every 20 minutes to stand in the bathroom and decided whether or not I will be sick. It's 1:25 am and the heat has just kicked in. I refuse to work in the cold anymore. The first couple of times I stayed till well after 1 am I worked with the heat off, but it is just to cold, so I figure if I'm not getting any serious compensation for the extra hours at least I can be warm. I would rather be warm, anyway with trying to get over being so sick for so long. It's 1:26 am, and I've decided that I'm going to try to work on the workbook at least until 2:30 am and then I will head home. I will probably take a cab home, as it will be very cold, and I will be very tired by then. I came to the office today at 11:00 am which explains why I'm having trouble focusing now, some 12 or 13 hours later. I wonder how much of this extra time could be better spent painting or persuing my other interests, but then I still end up working a ridiculous amount, so it is hard to tell one way or the other. Oddly, though, my art rarely suffers form the extra hours, so I suppose it is not that big a deal. It's 1:28 am. I went to an little private party Friday night. Me and a few musicians, mostly guitarists. Actually 2 guitarists, a manodlin player and myself. We played music until about 2 am, me on the flute accompaning whatever they were playing. It was very mellow. We recorded some of the pieces, and for the most part it seemed like some of it sounded really good. I was happy anyway. IT's been a long time since I've played the flute with a group. I need to brush up on my majors and minors so I don't have to take quite as much time figuring out what's sharp and flat in what key. It's 1:30 am, and I should be signing off now. Wishing everyone well. Sara |
