Sam called me at about 11:30 as I was getting ready to walk out the door for
work. I turned on my tv to see what was going on. It looked really really bad.

For the most part the subway or underground walkway system in Daegu is really
extensive. There is only one train line, a rather long one, but the underground
walk is connected to it. I'm not sure if that was as effected by the fire
bombing as the subway train stations were, but I saw some images on T.V. that
showed Seomun Market signs, and I've been in the crosswalk down there, so I
have a fairly good idea where it happened.

At the latest it looks like the number of people who died is going to get high.
So far they have it at 120. I was watching the news last night with a number
of Koreans at my favorite little restruant. It broadcast the names of the
victims and their ages. At least ten where under the age of fourteen. It was
really hard to watch this all.

I do not live anywhere near the subway, it is on the other side of Daegu from
me, really, so I had nothing to worry about. We were a bit worried about
students, and traffic downtown was pretty bad last night. Mr. Kim, who lives
downtown, left early so he could get home at a reasonable time.

So far noone I know has been injured, but seeing the images gave me more than
one nightmare last night.

So, please don't worry to much, I'm okay. All the teachers at the school are
fine, and all of our students were unharmed so we were very lucky.

Here are the news links for the Korea Times and Cnn if you really want to go
and see it.

The standing theory right now is that it may have been set off by a disgruntled
taxi driver who had threatened more than once to blow something up, but had not
threatened the subway.

More soon,

Sara
