| So, It is has happend at last. It was actually much
ado about nothing as Eric finally left and Wilf finally began. Much to the surprise and perhaps irriation of Mr. Kim Eric began making plans to leave in December. Wilf, has arriaved, and he seems to be a fairly good teacher if somewhat older and laid back. This has not yet been a problem, and I dont' expect that it will. Unline the teacher he is replacing, Wilf seems far more amiable to using the curriculm that all of the teachers are suposed to be using, which makes my job far easier, anyway. After a crash training, and as much information as I could give he was off and running Monday with very little time to prep. At the moment his only complaint was the state of his apartment which was apparently quite unagreeable. He was also left without heat, and so it was sort of frustrating for him, which I can understand. He seems to have settled now, and he is familiar with Daegu, as he has a fiance here. He is planning to marry sometime in June, which should be interesting enough. As for me, life goes on, and on, and on. I'm trying not to worry to much about the current state of politcal affairs. The most recent incident is the interception of an unarmed US spy plane flying over the sea of Japan by four North Korean fighter jets. Apparently on of the jets Locked-On to the US plane and there was some question about it being taken down. However after tailing the plane for 50 minutes the jets broke off and let it go. This on top of the recent restart of Korean nuclear reactors, the withdrawl of nuclear monitors (I am at a loss to remember the name of said monitors), and the continual fronting by Korea that it could at any time withdrawl from the armistice treaty that ended the Korean war has everybody a bit skiddish. The pending war on Iraq has definatly not helped with my general perception by Koreans as they are far more standoffish now with foriegners than they were a few weeks and months ago. Tonight I had a number of parents visit my young POB class. They enjoyed themselves and got to see some of the progress that the students had made, which I think is fairly significant. Apparently the only complaint so far is that I have to be too energetic and the parents seem to have a high level of disbelief that I can keep my energy level up to match those of the students. My response is that I'm a proffesional teacher and that's what we do, but I'm not quite sure that Mr. Kim knows how to explain that to the parents. Until students start leaving class I suppose I will not worry about it. This evening will include a welcome Wilf beer for which I shall probably not stay to long, as I plan to try to get to Seosun early tommorrow to hang out with Sam. Cheers, Sara |
