The wheels on the bus usually go round and round, but
this week they are not,
or at least there is a slight problem in that bus drivers
have gone on strike
in the city of Daegu. This would explain Sam's
unfortunately long walk to my
apartment Friday night in the rain, and the unexplained
shortage of cab drivers
at 10 pm. Surprisingly the news about the driver strike
is hard to come by, as
I could only find a paragraph about it listed on the web.
Not really a lot of
information just something about unsuccessful wage
negotaitons. Ah well.
School is school, it's been rainy and gray with very
little else going on. I
had a fun weekend of recording various movies, and an
exciting cabride out to
Outskirts of Public Bus stations (the actual name) where
we were unable to
locate a bus to the city that we wanted to travel to, so
perhaps next weekend I
can make an excursions somewhere more interesting then
Daegu.
In other news we unforunately lost a student this week
related apparently to the activity of
gangsters. I'm still confused about the usage of the word
gangster in Korea,
and I do think that occasionally it is used to describe
your average everyday
bully. Apparently one of our students, Kevin from P4S,
was being accosted on
his way to school every evening and having his money
taken from him by a
gangster.
We have been instructed to provide some kind of tip on
how to avoid
having this happen. I'm not really sure what to advice
since most of the kids
already know Tae-kwon-do which you would think would give
them some form of
protection, but in this particular case it does seem to
be lacking. Hard to say
really.
In all, it's a continual progression of work, and work
and work,
interspersed with occasional things like painting, and
music. I am going to try
and get in touch with my guitarist friends to see if I
can possibly have some
musical activities on Friday, but it's hard to say, seems
like everyone around
here is hyper busy as of late.
Cheers, and what not. Sara
